After mutual presentations indeed negotiation started and only at the point where a decision was needed, we were able to figure out for whom the empty chair at the head of the table was meant. Because that was the moment the President was called in, he installed himself in the special chair, gave his talk and dissapeared thereafter. All preceded and followed by a formal and polite greeting of exchanging cards and bowing.
